Our Mission Statement:
The Early Childhood Community Partnership Council of Sandwich is an alliance of those who care for, and about, young children. Our goal is to support and enrich early childhood development by working with parents, professionals, and community members to increase the quality, accessibility, and affordability of services to families of pre-schoolers.
We Offer:
- tuition assistance to private and public preschools and childcares full-day funded Headstart program for eligible families a resource and referral directory of Early Childhood Programs The Discovery Center Drop-In Program at The Sandwich Public Library parenting workshops and children's events throughout the year
- professional development opportunities for teachers and providers
For further information on any of these programs for yourself or someone you know. Please call Lauren at 888-9525. Funded through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care granted to the Sandwich Public Schools and the ECCPCS.
Tuition Assistance:
Helping to make a quality pre-school experience affordable is one of our most important initiatives. Sandwich residents who are employed at least part-time, and have a child who is at least two years and nine months, but have not yet entered Kindergarten, are eligible if their incomes fall into the range of the chart below. A Sliding Fee Scale determines the amount of assistance families qualify for.
Headstart:
Through a cooperative arrangement with the Bourne/Sandwich Headstart center of the Cape Cod Child Development Program, we offer funded full-day, full-year preschool day for income-eligible Sandwich families. The accredited center was recently renovated to provide a bright and cheerful environment for two classrooms of preschool children.
Discovery Center:
Look for the pinwheels at the head of the stairs at the Sandwich Public Library, and you know that The Discovery Center is open for fun! This preschool play space was designed to give every young child in town the benefits of a preschool experience, without the burden of cost. Open to the whole family, the Center provides drop-in opportunities for children, with their favorite grown-up, to explore materials and activities together. We thank the staff and the Library Board of Trustees for welcoming us, and for sharing with all the children in our community. Look for our scheduled hours, and "come over and play!" Call us today at 888.0625 ext.109.
Parenting Programs:
Parenting is one of the toughest jobs ever held. We are here to support you and your children as the "magic years" slip quickly by. Sometimes we sponsor performers to come and entertain the whole family. Sometimes we have fun activities for child and parent to try together. Sometimes we care for the children while parents (and grandparents) learn and share the secrets of raising happy, healthy children. Look for our seasonal calendars for detailed information.
The Lending Library:
We are excited to announce the addition of many new materials to the Toy Lending Library. They will be ready to circulate to homes as an added benefit of our collaboration with Sandwich Public Library. We have also added Theme Boxes with curriculum materials that child care and preschool programs may borrow to enhance their curriculum with.
Resource and Referral:
Choosing a setting for your child's first experience is very important, and can be very difficult. The Upper Cape Resource Directory outlines all the licensed programs in this area. Additionally, informational brochures on what to look for in a quality program are available. Stop by the Discovery Center, or call 888- 9525 for your free copies today.
Professional Development:
We provide educational opportunities for teachers of young children, and support in achieving nationally recognized standards of excellence. Sandwich is fortunate to have many programs that have achieved NAEYC accreditation, the standard of best practice for early childhood programs. In addition, the Council is sponsoring family day care providers in their pursuit of the Child Development Associate Credential (C.D.A.), another measure of quality programming for young children.
Other Community Initiatives:
- summer preschool program at the Wing School . Sandwich Adventure Playground sponsors "Puppets for Preschoolers" grant from the ARTS Foundation of Cape Cod funded immunizations & CPR for child care providers
- quality improvement of programs through renovations and additional materials
